Health Solution to Acne Problem

As recently reported by Alan R. Shalita, MD, teaching professor and chairman of the Department of dermatology, SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, eating low carb foods does not only help you in reducing weight but is can also improve your acne.

According to the study conducted by Alan R. Shalita, MD, professor and chairman of the department of dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, based on theories, individuals who have acne may have hyperinsulinemia and if their diet is composed of foods which are low in glycemic index (GI) then it can help in controlling acne. Hyperinsulinemia is the excess of hormone insulin in the person's blood. Eating foods low in the glycemic index (GI) which is low carb foods can control the individual's blood sugar levels also known as glucose.

Shalita suggests that those people who have acne should only eat a moderate amount of carbs and they should also control their cravings for dairy products. He says that overdoing of dairy products can lead to acne. Shalita recently made a talk at the American Academy of Dermatology Summer meeting in New York about the relationship between acne and diet. Shalita further suggests that over the counter products is the best place to begin treating your mild to moderate acne. You can start treating your acne by applying salicylic acid, after this you can apply a benzoyl peroxide leave-on product in order to dry your skin. However, if you don't respond to these products, then its best to visit your dermatologist, says Shalita.

Choosing low carb diet does not only keep you healthy but it can also treat your acne. Acne can be prevented if you stay away from dairy products too. You can try treating your acne by buying over the counter products but if it will not work then you must make a visit to your dermatologist.
