Government Spends More Money on the Health of Persons Who Are In Hospice Care

According to a government report, Medicare has spent more dollars in hospice care. In fact, from 2005 to 2009, Medicare has spent an amount of $12 billion dollars for hospice care. This is quite an incredible amount. Hospice care is provided to individuals who have terminal illness. They help these people by giving them comfort not cure. Sometimes these people have only six months or less to live. The report shows that there is an increase of 53 percent from 2005 to 2009. This can be attributed to the fact that more people are making use of hospice care services.

There are more than one million people receiving hospice care during 2009 according to Department of Health and Human Services. This shows an increase of 25 percent compared to 2005. Hospice care can be obtained in hospitals, long term care facilities, at home or in any other types of health care facilities who focus on hospice care. More and more individuals need hospice care that is why there are now a lot of facilities who are offering hospice care or sometimes called as end of life care services.

There are some insurance companies who provide coverage for hospice care. This is a big advantage to those people who have been diagnosed of terminal sickness. It can provide peace of mind knowing that you have coverage for your health care. Based on the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association there are more patients in for-profit hospices facilities.

Terminal sickness cannot be prevented. Hospice care is there to provide the needs of these individuals who are suffering from their sickness. The people from hospice care want to make sure that their patients are provided with the utmost care and attention to make them feel special and comfortable even if there are no more cures for their illness. Hospice care can make the lives of their patients easier by providing them the needs that they require most especially during these difficult times. The news source of this article is ABC News and the study is conducted by Journal of the American Medical Association.
