Why You Need To Look Into Medicare Indianapolis

Medicare Indianapolis is a very useful service than can provide eligible people with government supported health care cover.

Indianapolis Medicare plans are available for US citizens over the age of 65 years. It is important that you look into this type of cover and see if you are eligible.

As with many essential services in life health care costs are rising. Each year even basic services get more and more expensive. Currently a trip to the emergency room costs patients an average of $3,000. This does not include any of the after care that you may need.

Everyone needs to face up to costs of health care and put plans in place to protect themselves. It is important that you look into medical insurance and government funded plans such as Medicare as soon as possible. These can help you to provide essential financial support against the increasing costs of medical care.

What is Medicare?

In the early days of health insurance the government and state provided very little help for retired people or those on low incomes. This meant that it was incredibly difficult for people on limited budgets to get the health care they needed. In the mid 1960's just 56% of retired Americans had health insurance which meant that thousands of people had no financial support in place in case they fell ill.

Medicare was introduced in 1965 to help cover all those Americans over the age of 65 years against the costs of health care. Medicare provides basic health care support and is split into three main parts:

  1. Part A - this provides essential cover against inpatient hospital treatment. The costs of this type of cover is paid out of taxes during your working life. This means when you retire if you are eligible you will not have to pay a premium in order to receive this cover.
  2. Part B - this covers additional medical care such as outpatient treatment, doctors services and some rehabilitation therapy. There will be a small monthly premium for this cover.
  3. Part D - this covers prescription drugs. Part D is not included as standard with Medicare. You will have to enroll on this plan if you want to get access to subsidized prescription medication. This also has a small premium charge.
